One School, One Book: Dragons in a Bag

Reading Together at Home

Welcome Deerfield Families!

Our book pick for March is Reading Month 2024 is "Dragons in a Bag." Each Deerfield student will receive a copy of the book to read at home. This is a chapter book, so some readers may need to be read to while other readers may read on their own. Our goal is for this to be a family experience and you will read & discuss together. Resources that go along with the story are available on this site. Use the "Calendar," "Family Engagement," and "Resources" tabs at the top right of this homepage to navigate. If you click on the "Family Engagement" tab, you will find discussion questions for each chapter for your family to talk about at home. Students will follow the activity calendar for the month of March and enjoy the book at home. There are short Google Form responses for students to complete at the end of each week. :)

Deerfield is thankful for this "One School, One Book" program in connection to Read to Them

Dragons in a Bag - By: Zetta Elliott

The dragon’s out of the bag in this diverse, young urban fantasy from an award-winning author–with two starred reviews!

When Jaxon is sent to spend the day with a mean old lady his mother calls Ma, he finds out she’s not his grandmother–but she is a witch! She needs his help delivering baby dragons to a magical world where they’ll be safe. There are two rules when it comes to the dragons: don’t let them out of the bag and don’t feed them anything sweet. Before he knows it, Jax and his friends Vikram and Kavita have broken both rules! Will Jax get the baby dragons delivered safe and sound? Or will they be lost in Brooklyn forever?
