Our two-year Confirmation Ministry brings together Parish youth in Grades 7 and 8 from our Parish School of Religion (PSR), Holy Trinity and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception day schools and Family Based Catechesis (FBC). Our Confirmandi's parents and/or candidates gather for formation in community, fellowship, and prayer experiences at several times throughout the year. These gatherings lead up to the celebration of Confirmation and beyond in a period of mystagogy that takes the newly confirmed into deeper insights and appreciation for the full outpouring of the Gift of the Holy Spirit received in Confirmation. Please know that preparation takes a total of two years starting in 7th grade. This sacrament requires candidates to be adequately prepared, therefore, prior religious education before 8th grade is required.
Retreat Experience: It is necessary and important for our 8th graders making Confirmation to have a profound retreat experience during their Confirmation preparation. We have partnered with a Catholic youth camp called Damascus to provide this experience for our Confirmandi.
"Damascus offers camps, retreats and resources that help people encounter Jesus and live the adventure of the Catholic faith."
Sponsors: The Catholic Church tells us that “the sponsor is to take care that the confirmed person behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the obligations inherent in this sacrament,” (Code of Canon Law). The Sponsor's job is to both set an example of what living the life of a disciple means as well as helping the candidate through the process and encouraging them to flourish in our Faith even after the sacrament has been made. The sponsor will set the clear example that this is not a "Catholic graduation." It is important for a sponsor to regularly pray and encourage their candidate.
Who should be a Sponsor?
Someone who is over the age of 16 and has received all of the sacraments of initiation in the catholic church. (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation).
If married, they must be validly married in the catholic church.
Be a person who “leads a life of faith in keeping with the function to be taken on;” (walk the walk) Should not be someone your child is just “close” to.
NOT a parent. Parents can only step in for sponsor as a proxy if sponsor can not make it to a meeting.
Sponsor Certificate needed from their own parish. If the sponsor is from Holy Trinity or St. Mary, no certificate is needed, we can just look it up.

Confirmation Name: The Catholic Church encourages Confirmation candidates to choose a saint’s name as part of the sacrament of Confirmation to serve as a lifelong model of holiness and guidance. The chosen saint becomes a spiritual patron, interceding for the confirmandi and inspiring them to live as faithful disciples of Christ. This name symbolizes a deeper commitment to the faith, marking a new chapter in the confirmandi’s spiritual journey. Much like the saints who have gone before us, the confirmation name serves as a reminder that Confirmation is not the end of ones Catholic faith but the beginning of a life lived with greater devotion to Christ. It reflects the confirmand's desire to grow in faith, drawing inspiration from the example of their chosen saint. 8th Graders should choose their Confirmation name and submit the form by December 1, 2024!
