Dear AHS families,
As we bring the 2024–25 school year to a close, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for an incredible year. Our school community continues to inspire through its talent, dedication, and unityan, d this month’s celebrations truly reflect that spirit.
In May, We were proud to induct over 180 juniors into the National Honor Society and to recognize more than 60 students with scholastic and book awards at our recent awards night. Their commitment to academic excellence and service was on full display and speaks volumes about the values we uphold at AHS. We’re also proud to highlight Sreetama Kushari, who was nominated for a Clara Barton Award by the American Red Cross for her exceptional community service. Her compassion and leadership have made a lasting impact. Our student journalists continue to shine, with Yasmin Rensch and Omair Athar featured on the Fox 61 Student News website. Yasmin’s piece on Teen Dating Violence and Omair’s story on Fostering Community through Sports. tackled timely topics with thoughtfulness and depth. Congratulations to both! More congratulations are in order for Sergio Alio Prieto and Isabelle Shternberg, who earned first and third place in the 2025 EEMarts Annual Student Contest. Their persuasive visual advocacy on energy issues stood out for scientific accuracy, originality, and creativity. With entries from across Connecticut, this is a remarkable accomplishment.
In the arts, we are thrilled to celebrate Holly Freeman, an AHS junior selected for the 2025 NAfME Eastern Division Honor Choir. Holly recently rehearsed and performed at The Bushnell alongside the top vocalists from across the Northeast. This is an extraordinary achievement and a testament to her dedication and talent. Finally, our Performing Arts program had an outstanding showing at this year’s Halo Awards, with multiple nominations for Puffs and Mamma Mia! A special shoutout to Olivia Chan, who received the "Last Minute Hero Award" for stepping into a lead role in Puffs, and to Drea Cusano, who earned Best Actress in a Lead Role in a Contemporary Musical. Drea and Shriya Dharan also brought the house down with a live performance from Mamma Mia! at the awards ceremony. Bravo to all!
As we wrap up the year, I want to thank our staff, students, and families for making this school year one of growth, achievement, and connection. I hope your summer is filled with rest, joy, and time with loved ones. Enjoy the break and we’ll see you in August!
Warmly,
Dr. Lockhart
