Summer Skills and Fun

Summer vacation is a time to rest, enjoy the outdoors, explore interests, and spend time with family and friends. However, within this summer schedule there are many things students can do to maintain and strengthen their academic skills so that they avoid the "summer slide" and return to school ready to re-engage with learning. Staying connected to learning can happen through a variety of fun, easy, and creative activities, many while doing every day activities. Utilizing the grade level links below will provide students and their families with suggested activities in the areas of literacy, mathematics, social studies, and STEM in addition to enrichment boards.

The Connecticut State Department of Education has also put out their annual challenges which students can participate in, which can be accessed below in addition to links from our Library Media Specialists to support fostering the love of reading. Finally, for each grade level there is a chart students can use to keep track of the listed activities that they have completed plus any others they have done to engage in exploring, thinking critically, creating, and applying problem solving skills.
