About Me

My name is Jessica Abate and I am a Certified School Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving students at Thompson Brook School and Avon Middle School. I work with students, teachers, families and outside clinicians to help make sure that our students are successful in school. I see students for individual and group counseling as well as lunch bunches.

I have a special interest in teaching Social Emotional skills to students and utilizing yoga and mindfulness when appropriate. I am currently working towards my Certification as a ChildLight Yoga Instructor.

I was born and raised in Hartford County and currently live here with my husband and two young boys. I have been a Social Worker for 14 years, a Certified School Social Worker for 11 years and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 10 years. I earned my Bachelor's in Psychology from Georgetown University and my Master's in Social Work from New York University. Prior to joining Avon Public Schools, I was a social worker in residential, community mental health, EAP and school settings.
