ADMINS' NEWSLETTER

Enjoy the warm weather this weekend! Stay well.

Congrats to the AHS Indoor Track & Field team, and especially Carver Morgan. At the CCC Championship meet, the team finished 5th overall with Carver winning the 1600m and our Sprint Medley Relay team of Carver, Jevonte Eaves, Paul Netland, and Oliver Lojewski were also Conference Champs. At last night’s Class M State Championship meet, Carver won both the 1600m and 3200m, leading Avon to a 4th place finish in the 42-team division. Carver will be racing at the State Open meet next weekend, and he will join our SMR team and Freshman Will Lancaster at Nationals in March.

NURSE'S CORNER

The AHS building water fountains remain closed down due to the pandemic. The bottle refill fountains have remained open, but now that the weather will be getting warmer we encourage you to remind your student to carry a water bottle. AHS does not provide water bottles beyond what is for sale in the cafeteria. The cafeteria is often closed during non lunch times and therefore there is limited access to water and your child may be thirsty!

_______________________________________

All 9th graders are required by CT State Law and Avon BOE policy to submit a physical exam performed between March 1st of the 8th grade year and the end of the 9th grade school year. This year's 9th graders would need a PE between March 1, 2021 and June 15, 2022. Please check your records, and if you have not done so already, get a current physical into the AHS Nurse's office.

_______________________________________

The Avon school district received a second distribution of COVID-19 at-home test kits from the State of Connecticut. At this time, we have the ability to provide one (1) iHealth test kit per student. The district is making these test kits available to all families at this time. Families may elect to obtain a test kit for their student(s) on a voluntary basis.

  • Parents/guardians should contact their school nurse (860-404-4744 or via email: ahsnurses@avon.k12.ct.us) or AHS Main Office to request a test kit for their high school child. Parents/guardians who have children in multiple schools should make a request for their child at their specific school.

  • Test kits must be picked up by a parent/guardian at the school during regular school hours. No test kits will be sent home with students.

These rapid home tests are to be used to screen those individuals when they become symptomatic or when they have had direct exposure to a positive individual to determine who should not be present in school.

      • After the test is administered, results should be communicated to the school nurse as soon as possible. The nurse will then review the protocols, determined by test results, for return/isolation/quarantine.

The iHealth Test Kits contain two tests and detailed instructions for parents/guardians to follow. (Directions in other languages can be found online at: https://portal.ct.gov/coronavirus/self-test). Please review the packaging labels and instructions for information regarding storage, expiration, etc.

Stay safe and well!
