Avon Wrestling Coaches
Head Coach John McLaughlin
Coach McLaughlin is a 1989 graduate of Avon High School. At Avon, McLaughlin won the class "S" championships at 145 and 152. He also finished 2nd in the state open championships and 3rd in New England as a senior. He was a member of two state championship teams, and captain in 1989. McLaughlin went on to wrestle at Rhode Island College. He was a 2X all conference wrestler and captain in his senior year. As a coach, McLaughlin is 425-175-1. His teams have won the North Central Conference Championships 12 times and the CCC conference in 2019. He was the state coach of the year in 2006, as well as NCCC coach of the year in 2008 and 2011. McLaughlin lives in Avon with his wife Robyn and two sons.
Assistant Coach Doug Fink
Coach was a 1990 graduate of Simsbury High School. At Simsbury he won a class "LL" championship and was a state open championship runner up. Coach Fink Wrestled at Ithica college and was a member of the 1994 national championship team. After college he became an assistant coach at UNC Penbroke. He then moved on to become the head coach at MacMurray College. Followed by being the head coach at Centenary College. After moving back to Connecticut he became the head coach at Plainville high school where he lead Plainville to become one of the best teams in the state. Coach Fink is one of the premiere technicians in the state and always has a bag full of tricks. Coach Fink and his daughter Malia live in Simsbury
Assistant Coach AJ Mancini
Coach Mancini is a 2006 graduate of Avon High School. His team won the NCCC Championships and came in 2nd in the class "S" tournament. Coach Mancini was 3rd in the class "S" as a senior at HWT. Coach Mancini was also a 2X conference champion. Coach Mancini was a 4 year varsity letter winner. He is a big tough physical presence and his leadership will help Avon achieve its goal.
