Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, Coimbatore was established in 1957 by the great Patriot and Educationist Padma Bhushan Dr. T.S. Avinashilingam under the auspices of the Avinashilingam Education Trust. Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas, the doyen of Nutrition and an eminent Home Scientist nurtured the Institution to what it is today. The saga of excellence and legacy created by the visionaries has been carefully nurtured and carried forward by a team of devoted functionaries. Presently, Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, Managing Trustee, Sri Avinashilingam Education Trust, Prof. S.P. Thyagarajan, Chancellor, Dr. V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor and Dr. S. Kowsalya, Registrar are carrying forward the transformative vision to place the Institution at its zenith. It is now one of the largest Women Institution in the country imparting quality education at all levels.

The School of Engineering, one of the eight Schools of the Avinashilingam Institute, was started in the year 1996 with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The School is spread over an area of 30.7 acres and is situated 6 km off Mettupalayam Road at Varapalayam. The scenic and serene campus away from noise pollution of the city, set amidst a variety of flora and fauna creates an ideal ambiance for learning. The Vision of the School of Engineering is to produce industry-ready women engineers who can compete in today’s world through innovation, enterprise and technical excellence. Well qualified faculty members encourage and mentor the students to achieve technical expertise. The School’s curriculum is based on Outcome Based Education (OBE) syllabus which is updated annually with the guidance of experts from academia, industry, and research organisations as well as our own successful alumni, who have achieved high places in their professional career.Funded research projects under being carried out under DST, BIRAC, AICTE, and TNSCST.
