Goals: This page will provide an overview of Avid 4 Adventure Multisport Camp. This program is the core of Avid 4 Adventure's day camps. The goals of Multisport Camp remain the same as always: campers will experience a different sport each day, building skills and confidence as they get comfortable with new activities.
Skills Instructors vs. Adventure Instructors: Avid 4 Adventure day camp instructors are classified as either Skills or Adventure instructors. Skills Instructors will work primarily with campers in Explorer (K-1st grade) groups AND Multi-sport groups entering 2nd-4th grade. Adventure Instructors will work primarily with multisport campers entering 2nd-7th grade.
The multisport curriculum documents are written to apply to ALL age groups. If an activity is recommended for a specific age group, this is noted in the curriculum.
Multisport Camp Themes:
During their 1 week of multisport camp will focus on:
Trying new activities: many campers will be doing one (or more) of these sports for the first time!
Building skills and confidence: the goal is to meet each camper at their own level and teach them at least 2 new skills each day
Making friends and building a welcoming, inclusive group dynamic.
Skills groups will focus on building independence.
Adventure groups will focus on building leadership.
Returning campers should bring over what they learned in Week 1 AND instructors can integrate the following:
Learning more advanced technical skills.
Building independence by empowering campers to help prepare for the day’s sport (rigging your craft on paddle days, fitting their own bikes and helmets on biking day, putting on their own harness and safety-checking a friend’s on climbing day, etc.)
Providing camper’s with opportunities for leadership within their peer group and potential to ‘lead’ certain activities/lessons and plan their days.
Developing deeper friendships, engaging in group discussions, setting goals and completing team building challenges as a group
Skills groups will focus on building independence
Adventure groups will focus on building leadership
JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Discussion Topics: Avid 4 Adventure is committed to creating and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, welcoming and equitable environment for all. As part of our mission, we are committed to providing our campers and staff with the perspectives and skills needed to thrive. With this in mind, we have included JEDI-related lunch time discussion topics in all Avid 4 Adventure camp curriculum. Instructors are encouraged to introduce these conversation topics, and use them as a jumping-off point for further conversation with their campers. Check the specific curriculum pages for more details.
