A work permit is a legal document that allows a minor student the ability to be employed. All AVUHSD students ages 17 and under must obtain a valid work permit to complete the hiring process. To be eligible for employment, students must have at least a 2.0 GPA on the most current grading period (quarter or semester), and no more than 7 absences in any two classes during the last quarter and no more than 15 absences during the last semester, and has not received a failing grade in any class during the last grading period in order to get a valid Work Permit (AVUHSD Board Policy). For students in one of our Alternative Education programs (Independent Study or On-Site Continuation) a review of academic progress with the assigned teacher is conducted.
