There are lots of things to love about the American rock band Phish. This is not the curriculum to explore all of those things. But we will touch on many of them - at least from this humble phan's perspective. This course was developed from my subjective Phish experience - how I got into the band, what about them drives me - musically, lyrically, from a creative, playful space. This Phish curriculum was inspired by my friend Amy's interest in the band, our collective love for jazz, wordplay, and nonsensical curiosities, and my simultaneous joining of a curriculum writing team. It is derived from a series of emails we traded back and forth during the summer of 2020 - when COVID (not Page) raged. Phish had been bringing us isolated phans together with the release of Sigma Oasis, and I started learning more Phish tunes on my ukulele than I ever thought I would. Amy was a willing participant, musically adventuresome, and gave her honest feedback to the tunes I shared. In order to narrow the scope of a Phish curriculum, I chose to limit our focus to Phish 1.0. After all, this was my subjective experience, and I came of age in the mid-nineties. I hope you enjoy the ride - let's get this show on the road!
