Activity Overview
Building and creating with boxes can open up a child’s imagination like no other activity! The perfect building blocks for creative inspiration, boxes can become interstellar spaceships, cozy houses for dolls and animals, fast racing cars, secret forts, and countless other playful creations. This activity not only stimulates the imagination, it provides a space for developing fine and gross motor finger strength through cutting and taping.
What You Need
Cardboard boxes
Tape (packing tape recommended)
Scissors
Drawing materials
Steps
Collect a few cardboard boxes of various sizes.
Ask your student what they would like to create with the boxes. If your student would like to draw a plan or blueprint to help generate ideas, that can be a good way of getting the creativity moving.
Once your student has decided on what they want to build, begin the process. They may need more scaffolding and help with this process, but make sure the student is doing the majority of the work.
If desired, use drawing materials such as crayons and markers to add details to your creations.
