Dear Parents,
Homework is an important part of learning. When I assign something, I believe it to be essential to enhancing the understanding of important concepts. I try to always go over directions and give time for your children to begin in class. Homework is often awarded points for completion or in some cases, accuracy. For students who do not complete assignments, I usually insist that they stay with me during lunch to complete the assignment and are then given half credit if graded. I do not give extra credit.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT I TRY TO UPDATE THE HOMEWORK CALENDAR ON THIS SITE, BUT I MAY NOT ALWAYS BE ABLE TO DO SO. THEREFORE, YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA/PLANNER IS THE BEST SOURCE FOR UPDATED HOMEWORK CHANGES, AS ALWAYS, ENCOURAGING YOUR CHILD'S PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
ABSENT OR OUT OF CLASS?
I have created "homework sheets" for each grade level that I teach. These sheets list information regarding what was covered, what needs to be turned in to me, what homework was assigned. Any worksheets are attached, and I also try to make a copy of any notes given in class so that upon return, students can staple it into their notebooks. It is your child's responsibility to check the folder when they return and turn in any work due. I usually like to give 2 days, but I work with students if they have been out for a lengthy period and can be more flexible.
I am a firm believer in giving notes to students. Most notes are in outline form so as to teach pulling important information from a text. Much of the test information is in your child's notes.
I try to always give several days notice in the agenda of upcoming tests. Please encourage your child to begin studying early. I encourage them to contact each other as study buddies. Notes can only be helpful if they are reviewed. As always, your support in helping to prepare your child is also greatly appreciated.
***Beginning next week Oct. 17th. I will no longer be signing planners and you do not either. I would recommend that you still continue to check that your child is using the planner. Certain students will still need to continue to get signatures. That will be indicated in their planner on Monday, Oct. 17th. IMPORTANT: If your child is missing homework, we will need to go back to nightly signing for 2 weeks to get them on track***
