AVELA - A Vision for Engineering Literacy & Access (AVELA) and Hip Hop Is Green present a unique hip-hop and science-forward environmental event, the Hip Hop Climate Conference & Concert (HHCCC) to be held on Friday, November 1, and Thursday, November 7 in Seattle. Conceived by Black, Brown, and BIPOC climate advocates, and produced by a Black female-led production team, this event is designed to inspire direct action, promote science-based solutions to climate change, and uplift hip-hop as a culture rooted in both earth and advocacy. The Hip Hop Climate Conference & Concert seeks to unite hip-hop culture and STEM learning by activating a new generation of scientists, climate advocates, and promoters of healthful living.
Through events such as the Hip Hop Climate Conference & Concert, we strive to increase Black and Brown enrollment in STEM as a pathway to careers in science and eco-activism.
EDUCATE. INSPIRE. ACTION.
The AVELA STEM Programs leverage culturally responsive lessons designed to inspire and educate underrepresented minority students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Our initiatives include hands-on and research-based workshops, college and career mentorship, and collaborative project-based lessons that aim to empower students to explore their interests while developing key technical skills for their future.
The AVELA Career Development Program connects college students with professionals in their desired field. Participants receive personalized mentorship, technical skill building opportunities, field-specific networking, resume workshopping, public speaking practice, and much more. We aim to foster growth and success by connecting our participants with job opportunities directly related to their chosen field of interest.
The AVELA Research Initiative focuses on measuring the impact of STEM education and the effectiveness of our outreach model. We partner with universities, industries, and government organizations to conduct comprehensive studies to evaluate and enhance the outcomes of our initiatives. This work provides valuable insights and data to continuously improve STEM education, contributing to the development of effective pedagogical strategies.
