Digital Design: Reimagining Community
with Mia Maxwell, Summer 2024
Fashion stylist and zine maker Mia Maxwell teamed up with young people aged 14 to 25 from Tower Hamlets and Newham to create dynamic digital zines and posters.
Through a series of hands-on workshops, participants explored themes of identity, community, and protest, using these as inspiration to shape their own creative projects. Blending digital and traditional techniques, they combined tools like Canva and Adobe InDesign with hand-drawn illustrations, collages, and handwritten elements, producing unique and personal zines that reflected their perspectives, ideas and changes they wish to see within their communities.
LGBTQ+ youth from Step Forward explored the meaning of community support and reflected on the causes they are most passionate about, aiming to better advocate for and uplift other queer young people. They utilised a combination of digital and traditional methods to create zines, fostering a deeper understanding of collective care and community resilience through their creative practice.
