ANSI/PLATO FL1 protocol

Since its creation in 2009, Petzl has been part of the 14 companies on the committee that have developed the ANSI FL1 protocol. Created to help end users compare headlamp performance, ANSI/PLATO FL1 protocol was revised in 2019.

The standard gives clarity to the consumer. When you see the icon indicating the ANSI/PLATO FL 1 Standard, you can be sure that the headlamp has gone through rigorous testing and the claims the package makes are true.

The 2019 standard was developed with the guidance of:

ANSI: American National Standards Institute organized the development of the standard. It also carries out updates when needed.

NEMA: National Electrical Manufacturers Association publishes the standard.

PLATO: Portable Lights American Trade Organization monitors and verifies its use.

Representatives from 10 companies in the portable lighting industry of which Petzl take part.
