80% of trash in landfills can be recycled.

According to the EPA, about 80% of all trash in landfills can be recycled. Also, only about 30% of recyclable waste produced in homes is recycled. These statistics motivated me to find out how I can increase recycling at Trinity Episcopal School. I went around to different recycling bins at Trinity to see how I could improve recycling.

Recycling bin in a grade 7 classroom

This recycling bin is bad because there is not much paper in the recycling bin. This shows that not many people are recycling.

Recycling bin in a grade 5 classroom

This recycling bin is bad because there are lots of unrecyclable materials in the recycling bin. Even one piece of unrecyclable material will contaminate an entire bin and prevent it from being recycled.
