Teens 13-18 are invited to submit their zines about the right to read, banned books, the freedom of information, censorship and more to our online library.
Read zines by teens age 13-18 across Texas.
Zines have been used for decades as a counterculture form of activism, allowing anyone to get their word across, free from the rules and censorship of corporations or ruling parties. This especially pertains to the fight against book bans as part of the way books and the ideas they carry are censored are through publishing outlets. By being completely self-published, zines are a way that we as individuals can get our ideas across and fight for what we believe in.
Short for "fanzine" or magazine, zines are a type of self-published, short-form work that developed as a way for individuals to express emotions and beliefs outside the realm of censorship or regulative structures
The Save the Books Project aims to prompt and facilitate the creation and sharing of zines by Teens across Texas to share their words, art, and more about the freedom to read and banned books
