AVID, which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in their post-secondary plans.
Crockett's AVID program enrolls over 600 students (nearly 40% of our population) and focuses on building the skills of writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading. AVID's mission is to close the opportunity gap by giving students the resources and skills to succeed in college, careers, and life. In the first two years of AVID, students work on community building and building a family culture with their peers and AVID teachers. Additionally, we emphasize executive functioning skills like time management, digital and physical organization, and self-advocacy, while also working on academic skills like note-taking, critical reading, and high-level questioning. As they move into junior year, they continue building on the same skills, exploring colleges more deeply, and crafting their college essays. As seniors, we work with AVID students to file their FAFSA, connect them with scholarships, and help them apply to colleges.
