"We loved having all our teachers. I love that we're getting advice from colleagues who are still in the classrooms everyday just like all of us. It makes it even more meaningful."
In response to a major shift in the music education workforce following the pandemic, our program was intentionally designed to support and empower today’s music educators. With many experienced teachers retiring and new educators entering the field from diverse professional backgrounds, our district recognized the need for high-quality, pedagogy-focused training that ensures engaging, effective, and culturally relevant music instruction for all students.
Building on an existing foundation of Kodály expertise in our district, our team developed a refreshed Kodály certification program tailored to meet today’s teachers where they are. Our faculty is trained in both music pedagogy and andragogy, the science of adult learning, allowing us to honor participants’ prior knowledge while differentiating instruction and pacing for adult learners.
Our curriculum blends time-tested Kodály practices with current research and resources, drawing from both historical foundations and contemporary scholarship. Through extensive collaboration, we curated repertoire and strategies that reflect the cultural diversity, equity, and access needs of our local student population.
Every element of the program, from movement and guided questioning to creative expression and sequencing, was thoughtfully designed through a collaborative process that aligns our philosophies and instructional goals across courses. The result is a cohesive, rigorous, and responsive learning experience that equips educators with practical tools, deep understanding, and confidence to deliver meaningful music education in today’s classrooms.
