About Mrs. Arredondo

Dear Clayton Cardinal Family,

Welcome to Second Grade! I am looking forward to learning more about your student and family this year. I’d like to share a little bit about my family and how I became a member of the Clayton Cardinal community. I’ll also share my teaching philosophy and my goals for this school year.

My husband, Jeff, and I have lived in Austin for most of our lives. We are products of AISD and we were high school sweethearts. We both graduated from Texas State University and recently celebrated our 28th wedding anniversary over the summer. My daughter, Hope, started Kindergarten at Clayton, and she's a senior at Texas A&M expected to graduate in the fall. My son, Luke, another Clayton Cardinal, is a rising senior at James Bowie High School. This will be my 10th year at Nan Clayton Elementary and my  14th year in education with AISD.

My teaching philosophy is simple and to the point. I truly believe children are my mission field. My love for children began early in life through various volunteer opportunities. I wasn’t always sure I wanted to become a teacher, but I’m grateful I was steered in the right direction. My love for teaching became clear when I met my professors from Texas State University. I’m truly blessed to be a part of such an influential profession. I think the concept of reaching children at their own developmental level is crucial. I aspire to bring out the best in children and guide them to become whatever their hearts desire.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with your student. I will strive to keep his/her best interest in mind by giving those experiences that will guide him/her into becoming lifelong learners. I believe students thrive when given the opportunity to work in small groups, independently, whole-group, and by any other means necessary to reach their goals. Thank you in advance for the open lines of communication. Your support will enhance a smooth transition between home and school. We are going to have a blast in Second Grade!

Genuinely,

Yolanda Arredondo
