Guest Presentation
ACC students —who are also children of ACC employees—shared their personal experiences, challenges, and triumphs as community college learners. We heard firsthand what it’s like for them to navigate college life, balance responsibilities, and work toward their goals at ACC.
Additional Business
Members decided to skip August/September meetings and instead add a slide for inclusion in the pre-show at General Assembly Sept. 26 to publicize the Network.

Troy R. Jefferson, Director of the Department of Student Life shared opportunities for both students and employees to get involved with Student Life.
Additional Business
Members decided to move forward with using "Batwings" in addition to "RIverbat Employee Family Network." We had time at the end to have a question and answer discussion. Members agreed this was valuable so moving forward we will just have one speaker to allow for this time.

Ann Schubert, Director, ACC Foundation Operations
The ACC Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the college's mission through scholarships, student emergency aid and support of college initiatives as a whole. Last year, the ACC Foundation awarded over $1.4 million in scholarship funds to ACC students.

Mission Statement: "Amplify the voices of Riverbat families and foster a supportive, collegial environment among ACC employees who share the common experience of having family members enrolled in ACC."

College Prep Waivers and Articulated Credit
Guest speaker Jaye Chavez joined us to discuss the topic. Learn more by watching this video.
Credit for Prior Learning
The alternate way to earn credit was also discussed along with other tips on earning credit through testing.
Family and Faculty Connections Day
We were invited to participate in ACC's Faculty and Family Connections Day on November 9, 2024 at the HLC Accelerator.

Welcome New Members
During the recent meeting, we welcomed new members who shared their names, departments, and their students’ areas of interest.
Name and Mission Statement Vote Results
Results from the group name vote were announced, with "Riverbat Employee Family Network" receiving the majority of votes (12 out of 19 for the first choice, and 6 for the second choice). The mission statement vote also concluded, with 13 out of 19 members (68.4%) supporting the statement: “Batwings mission is to: Amplify the voices of Riverbat families and foster a supportive, collegial environment among ACC employees who share the common experience of having family members enrolled in ACC.”
ACC Rec Sports and Athletics Manager Guest Presentation
Additionally, we had a guest presentation by Tracy Partin, Manager of Rec Sports and Athletics, who shared the upcoming offerings for ACC students this Fall.
Free Tuition for Employee Child Dependents Update
The HR update highlighted that over 100 employees are taking advantage of the new tuition benefit for their dependents. Although a benefits team member couldn’t attend due to peak period demands, informational sessions are in the works to provide more details on educational advancement programs and the new tuition benefit. A reminder was shared about the registration deadline. Learn more on the website.
Finally, we discussed scheduling regular meetings for the academic year and selecting our next guest speaker.
