Short Horror Fiction
Short Contemporary Fiction
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301
This course introduces students to the craft of writing fiction. Students will explore various elements of storytelling, including character development, plot structure, dialogue, and narrative voice. Through writing exercises, peer workshops, examinations of craft, and reading classic and contemporary fiction, students will develop their ability to create works of fiction. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in fiction writing is required.
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301
This course introduces students to the craft of writing for the stage. Students will explore various forms of theater, including traditional plays, one-act performances, and monologues. Through writing exercises, contemporary script readings, peer workshops, and examinations of craft, students will develop the skills to create original and engaging works for the stage. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in playwriting is required.

Ghost Stories
Short Fiction
Prerequisite: English 1301.
This course explores a selection of literary forms, such as fiction, poetry, drama, screenwriting, and non-fiction. Individual instructors determine the emphasis of the course, and reading selections vary. Through close reading of classic and contemporary literature, critical discussion, craft analysis, and creative writing, students will develop strategies for writing and revising within the selected form(s) of literature. Students will actively engage in the local literary community and prepare and submit work for publication. No prior experience in creative writing is required.
Prerequisite: TSI complete in reading and writing or exempt.
A study of the principles of composition with emphasis on language, the mechanics of writing, the types of discourse, and research and documentation.
Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 or equivalent with minimum grade of C.
A continuation of English 1301 with emphasis on analysis of readings in prose fiction.
Prerequisite(s): ENGL 1302 or equivalents with minimum grade of C.
Survey of English literature from Anglo-Saxon times through the 18th Century.
