Pre Writing Video Questions
Answer the following questions in your notebook while watching the Pre Writing Video and be prepared to submit your answers to your instructor.
1. Understand the Assignment: Social Media: Friend or Foe?
Do you think social media is a friend or a foe? Write one or two sentences to explain why you feel this way.
2. Generate Ideas: Five Reasons Social Media is Friend or Foe
List five reasons that support why you feel social media is a friend or a foe. To help generate ideas, think about experiences you have had with social media that make you feel the way you do. If you're not sure whether you are writing reasons, try putting the word because in front of what you write. If it makes sense, it's probably a good reason.
3. Develop a Thesis Statement: Draft Thesis
Think about your claim regarding social media—is it a friend or foe? Now you need to express your position as a one or two sentence thesis statement. Remember, your thesis statement should be interesting and make readers challenge your opinion!
4. Organize Ideas: Create the Outline
You created a list of the top five ideas that support your thesis statement. Select your top three ideas and put them into the order in which they should appear in your essay. Which one should be first, second, and third? Once you have put them in order, write one sentence of support for each of your three ideas.
