I have been a faculty member at Austin Community College since the Spring of 2016. I am a Faculty Counselor and an Assistant Dean of Faculty Advising for the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Division. Alongside my work at ACC, I have been working as a licensed mental health counselor in the South and Central Texas region since 2007, working primarily with at-risk youth and young adults. My goal has always been to make a significant impact on these individuals by providing them with the necessary tools, support, and resources to thrive. Through my work, I have learned that people can be incredibly resilient, which has been a valuable reminder for me throughout the years.
As a counselor and supervisor, my philosophy incorporates several core components that I consider in every engagement. I believe in relentless optimism, that all individuals deserve to have someone fiercely devoted to their success. I focus on individual strengths and successes to reframe situations to foster motivation rather than trepidation. I also believe in being person-centered as it is vitally important to correctly identify what someone is really asking for and meet them where they are in that moment.
