Welcome to our virtual display celebrating Disability Pride Month! This month is dedicated to recognizing and honoring the diverse experiences and achievements of individuals with disabilities.
Understanding the Colors of Disability Awareness
Each color represents a specific type of disability:
Red: Physical disabilities
Gold/Yellow: Neurodiversity
White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
Blue: Emotional and psychiatric disabilities
Green: Sensory disabilities, including deafness and blindness
This month also commemorates the significance of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was enacted on July 26, 1990. The ADA is a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, education, transportation, and all public and private places open to the general public. The ADA's goal is to ensure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
Our virtual display offers a collection of resources designed to educate, inspire, and support. Explore our wide array of books, e-books, movies, and videos that highlight the experiences and achievements of individuals with disabilities. Additionally, you will find valuable resources and support services available both in our community and at ACC.
