AUSTIN POWWOW
Attend the Austin Powwow for a truly unique Austin experience that offers a fascinating look into the culture and heritage of Native American peoples. The public is invited to join in the celebration, and everyone is welcome to attend. Highlights include a grand entry featuring dancers from across the country, traditional dance competitions, and a vibrant Native market with a food court. Tickets are available for $7 for adults, while entry is free for those aged 12 and under. The event will take place at the Travis County Expo Center.

NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE EVENTS
NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE CRAFT NIGHT
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a special craft night and be inspired by artists Wendy Red Star (Apsáalooke(Crow)), Melanie Yazzie (Navajo), and Benjamin Harjo Jr. (Shawnee/Seminole). Participants will learn about these artists' unique styles and create their own artwork influenced by Native American motifs. Don’t miss the chance to design a painted tile that reflects this rich cultural heritage! All ages are welcome.

KIDS CREATE - CADDO CLAY POTS
Children can join a creative workshop to make Caddo clay pots, inspired by the artistic traditions of the Caddo tribe. This hands-on activity encourages kids to explore their creativity while learning about the cultural significance of pottery. Participants can drop by the library to craft while also searching for books, movies, and music to enjoy. This program is recommended for ages 6 to 10.

PONY BEAD BRACELET MAKING WITH JULIANN KRUTE
In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, participants can learn to create a bracelet inspired by traditional Native designs. Led by Choctaw tribe member Juliann Krute, this workshop will guide attendees in using pony beads and lacing to craft their own unique accessories. The program is limited to ages 12 to 17 and operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with supplies available for 25 participants. This workshop will be offered twice this month, on November 23, 2024 (1), and November 26, 2024 (2) at different times and locations.

THE CRAFTY ADULT: SEED BEAD EARRINGS
In honor of Native American Heritage Month, join a special class to create a simple pair of earrings inspired by centuries of Native American seed bead traditions. Led by Choctaw tribe member Juliann Krute, this workshop welcomes all skill levels, with no prior experience required. Supplies are limited to 25 participants, and available on a first-come, first-served basis for each class. This program is for ages 18 and up. Classes will be offered at different branches throughout the month beginning November 18, 2024.

THE CRAFTY ADULT: FINGERWEAVING WITH DOUG MARTIN
Participants will learn the art of fingerweaving, a braiding technique that requires no loom, and practice making a diagonal pattern keychain or pin to take home. This hands-on session will be guided by Doug Martin, a Citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a TERO-certified finger weaver known for creating beautiful, functional items. The event is part of a monthly series that introduces a new craft each session, allowing participants to explore various techniques in a relaxed, educational environment. Recommended for ages 18 and up. Sessions will be offered at different branches throughout the month beginning November 9, 2024.

CADDO TRIBE-INSPIRED TERRA COTTA POTS
The Caddo tribe, thousands of years ago, crafted pottery that was both functional and beautiful, using local soil and water to shape clay into bowls, bottles, and vases. Although traditional Caddo pottery ceased in the 1850s, a modern revival led by Caddo artists is bringing back this ancient art. Patrons are invited to join the Austin Public Library in making coil pots inspired by Caddo pottery, perfect for families and youth ages 3 and up.
