With growing concern about AI's influence on the world of work, it can be challenging to understand how your career plans may be affected. Career exploration refers to the process of self-discovery and of researching, evaluating, and learning about modern work opportunities, including the potential influence of AI on various career paths. More than ever, it's critical to make career exploration part of your long-term life planning. Join our team to gain insight into navigating careers in times of uncertainty. Whether you are undecided on your major/career, going through a career change, or searching for a deeper understanding of yourself and your career identity, this session will be of value to you. Uncover your path, discover your dream career, and learn how to navigate the shifting job market to secure your brightest future!

Presenter: Melissa Victor Totah, MA, LPC-S, NCC, CIMHP, Transformative Interventions Programs Manager at ACC. Melissa loves to administer and interpret career assessments, help people discover their innate strengths, and guide individuals in aligning their unique talents with opportunities. She believes a career is more than just a job or a series of jobs—it is often an extension of one’s self-identity. While a career alone does not define us, it plays a vital role in our sense of happiness, well-being, and sense of purpose within the world.

Make your career dreams a reality by discovering the benefits of participating in a job fair. Learn the basics of introductions (Elevator Pitch), how to dress, what to bring, and discover some conversation starters to use with the employers. The All Majors Spring Job Fair is April 17th. Noon: Level Up Your Confidence! Conquering Imposter Syndrome | JOIN VIA ZOOM

Do you sometimes feel like a fraud at work? Do you struggle with being confident in your qualifications as a job candidate? If yes is your answer, you might have experienced Imposter Syndrome (IS). IS is the persistent fear and false belief of being incapable or unworthy of success or potential despite noticeable accomplishments suggesting the contrary. An estimated 70% of people experience IS at some point. Join Career Counselor Shun-Heng (Henry) Tsai, M.Ed., LPC, and learn strategies to build confidence and overcome personal barriers to your career success.

Presenter: Shun-Heng (Henry) Tsai, M.Ed., LPC. is an ACC Career Counselor helping individuals needing support and assistance in the process of exploring career interests, examining personal needs and values, identifying the underlying reasons causing stress, constructing (or reconstructing) personal and professional identities, and making informed decisions. Henry is passionate about serving all students and specializes in Veteran, LGBTQ, international/ESOL, and socio-economically disadvantaged students.

Do you find the process of writing your LinkedIn profile intimidating? Let go of that fear and find out how to add information to your LinkedIn to help employers, recruiters, and others appreciate you. In this session, you will learn quick tips on how to grab attention with your LinkedIn and prompt people to connect with you. We’ll walk you through steps for enhancing your LinkedIn profile to make the most of the most popular professional social networking site.


2 pm: Liberal Arts Superpowers: Unleash Them in Interviews | JOIN VIA ZOOM

Discover the majors, careers, and possibilities available to students in the liberal arts. Attendees will learn about the value of a liberal arts degree and about the marketable "power skills" that are gained from studying a liberal arts curriculum.  A panel of faculty from liberal arts disciplines will discuss how to articulate these power skills in job interviews. 


3 pm: Beyond the Resume: The Art of Telling Your Career Story with Confidence | JOIN VIA ZOOM

According to the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2023, 44% of workers’ core skills are expected to change in the next 5 years. This skills disruption impacts ACC students and can create uncertainty about the future. At ACC Career services, our team is driven to personally and proactively prepare our community to navigate these uncertain times by leveraging technology tools and communication strategies that help you confidently communicate your core skills and achievements to land and thrive in your dream job.

Many people consider themselves an introvert and have shared their concerns that recruiters may perceive them as shy or even less social than other extroverted job seekers. Interviewing can be challenging for most job seekers, whether you identify as an introvert, extrovert, or ambivert.

Join John Alderson, Career Specialist, to discover tips and techniques that will help you gain the skills to confidently talk about yourself, your skills, and your career achievements during an interview. Discover traits of an introvert that may be hugely beneficial in job interviews.

With some research, you will discover you are in excellent company. Many of the world's most successful people are introverts, including Bill Gates, Rosa Parks, J.K. Rowling, Steven Spielberg, and even Lady Gaga!

ACC GROW serves as an example of educational innovation, offering a transformative experience bridging the gap between academic learning and career goals. The program strategically integrates essential skills required for employment success and empowers students with the tools and resources to thrive in a competitive workforce. This session will cover topics including becoming career-ready, finding an on-campus job, and the benefits and outcomes of student employment. 


1 pm: Beat the Bots! Power up your Resume using AI Career Tools | JOIN VIA ZOOM

AI can be your friend! In this one-hour virtual session, Ann Derrick, Career Coach, will demonstrate how innovative AI tools, like JobScan and ChatGPT, can help you quickly customize your resume when applying for that dream job. After the session, all attendees will receive FREE access to JobScan (an AI-powered resume scanner) and an opportunity to schedule a follow-up career coaching appointment. 

3 pm: How Internships Can Jump-Start Your Career - by UFCU | JOIN VIA ZOOM 

Internships are a great window into the “real” work world. It is a gateway to understanding what is important to you. Is culture important? What about virtual vs in-person work schedules? Is your Social Media ready for review by potential employers? Let’s get ready to capitalize on internships as a jump-start to your career! This amazing opportunity is open to all. By the program's end, you will:

• Learn about the opportunities open to you, including job roles, skills, factors for success, and future career pathways.

• Explore the relevant technologies required to give you a strong foundation in tech.

• Develop and apply skills that are critical to success in your chosen career.

This blended learning experience of on-demand elearning and virtual live sessions runs for 10-12 weeks, and includes:

• Discussions with experts from Dell Technologies on tech careers, skills, and technology fundamentals.

• RNMKRS, a first of its kind international business skills competition using artificial intelligence and live role-plays.

• Upon successful completion, participants will receive the Dell Technologies Career Ready Professional credential.

Noon: When It’s Not All Fun and Games: Managing Career Anxiety | JOIN VIA ZOOM 

Searching for a job, changing careers, or exploring career pathways can be stressful - we get it. Some nervousness and anxiety are normal, so expect that. Anxiety can be overpowering and interfere with making decisions, moving forward, or applying for jobs. When this happens, you can benefit from having the tools and support needed to manage your anxiety and stress. Do you have anxiety that is impacting your career or self-confidence? Dawn Allison, ACC Career Counselor, will outline a guided approach to dealing with the stress or anxiety you may be facing and provide practical strategies to help you identify your strengths and gain confidence.

Presenter: Dawn Allison is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Global Career Development Facilitator with over ten years of professional experience in community non-profit organizations helping adults, children, and families heal from trauma and navigate difficult life circumstances.

Come join the members and leaders of ACCess Autism as we celebrate Autism Awareness Month by discussing the types of advocacy work we're doing, as well as the types of advocacy work we'd like to see done in the future. As we brainstorm together, we'll make goals and plans to do more for the neurodiverse and Autistic community here at Austin Community College! --  Additionally, for Career Readiness Week, we'll highlight the self-advocacy that can be done in the classroom and workplace to help attendees be successful.
