Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Registered Apprenticeship?
Registered Apprenticeship is a work-based training model that combines paid On-the-Job Training (OJT) with Related Technical - or “classroom” - Instruction (RTI). Both elements of the program are completed at the same time, and apprentices are eligible to receive pay increases as certain milestones are reached. Apprenticeship is a great tool for identifying and rewarding high-performing employees and moving them up a career ladder. The “earn and learn” aspect of the program is greatly beneficial to the apprentices, as well, as they can receive a paycheck while learning skills relevant to their ultimate career goals. Apprentices in this program will also have all training costs paid for, rather than having to pay themselves to attend a traditional education program.
What will I be paid?
The starting wage for new apprentices at minimum is $18 per hour. Apprentices are required to earn a wage during the on-the-job training with the employer partners but will not be provided wages during the classroom instruction. During the apprenticeship period, apprentices will work 20 – 30 hours per week. At the halfway or completion mark of the program, apprentices who are in compliance with all requirements and making appropriate progress toward completion will be eligible for a performance-based pay increase.
Will I receive any additional compensation?
There is availability for performance-based bonuses upon the completion of the Apprentice program.
What are my obligations as an apprentice?
As stated, apprenticeship is a model of training that allows individuals to work and attend training at the same time. Since apprentices are paid staff, they first and foremost must demonstrate professional behavior and maintain eligibility for employment at all times.
As part of the apprenticeship agreement, apprentices will also be responsible for completing coursework according to the agreed-upon schedule. The coursework is completed during non-paid hours unless otherwise specified by the employer.
The goal of the program is for all apprentices to become skilled as an Accounting Technician.
