Bring Me Little Water, Silvy
arr. Adam Podd
Bring me little water, Silvy
Bring me little water now
Bring me little water, Silvy
Every little once in a while
Bring it in a bucket, Silvy
Bring it in a bucket now
Bring it in a bucket, Silvy
Every little once in a while
Silvy come a runnin'
bucket in her hand
She will bring a little water
fast as she can.
Matthew Lyon Hazzard (b. 1989)
Traveler's Hymn
Standing aft, looking into the canal,
I saw my reflection years ago
Strong, trim, confident, wine-drunk on life
Unaware of the coming storm.
Rain falls and becomes a flood.
Storm clouds come and go.
Weather changes with its thunder and silence.
Anchored alone at the isthmus,
I pondered other ports,
Forgotten lines and strange journeys,
Familiar music - once heard, then gone.
We held each other as long as time allowed,
Drank, staring at the sea.
He loved it all as he loved you -
deeply, without hesitation
Ysaÿe M. Barnwell (b. 1946)
Wanting Memories (from Crossings)
I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
To see the beauty of the world through my own eyes.
You used to rock me in the cradle of your arms,
You said you'd hold me till the pains of life were gone.
You said you'd comfort me in time of like these and now I need you,
And now I need you, and you are gone.
And I am sitting here wanting memories to teach me
To see the beauty of the world through my own eyes.
I thought that you were gone, but now I know you're with me;
you are the voice that whispers all I need to hear.
I know a "please" a "thank you" and a smile will take me far,
I know that I am you and you are me and we are one,
I know that who I am is numbered in each grain of sand,
I know that I've been blessed again and over again.
Kyle Pederson (b. 1971)
Remember the Children
Mama hears you cryin' as you try to keep it inside,
as you want to wear a brave face to the world.
Mama hears you prayin' as you say goodnight and lay there,
as you bare your soul to God and seek your place in this world.
Papa hears you playin' when you think no one's payin' attention,
when there is no mention of tears, and you're free to laugh.
Papa sees you dreamin' of a new day of freedom
for a new way of being a child in this world.
In Swahili
(Mama hears you crying, child)
(Mama prays for you)
(Mama hopes for you, child)
(Will the world listen to the dreams of her children?)
(Remember the children)

Joshua
arr. Philip Lawson
Joshua fought the battle of Jericho
And the walls came tumbling down.
You can talk about the men of Gideon,
You can talk about the men of Saul,
But there's none like good ol'Joshua,
And the battle of Jericho.
Right up to the walls of Jericho, he marched with spear in hand.
"Go blow them horns" cried Joshua
'Cos the battle is right in my hands
Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847)
Verleih uns Frieden (Grant us Thy Peace)
Grant us Thy peace, almighty Lord, O Source of every blessing!
We cannot keep The saving Word, Unless Thy peace possessing.
Thy peace O give by which we live.
English Translation from original German

Fever Dreams
You are the very reason
that I change with every season.
‘Cause you’ve been lost to the ages
and torn from the pages of woe, and I know
That you’ve been counting the seconds
and waving and beckoning home, and I know.
Yes, you know what I’ve been through now,
but you don’t pay no mind.
Why won’t you just love me too?
You’ve chained me in these binds.
‘Cause I know what you’ve been through now
and I pay every dime.
Come on now I just want truth,
no more of these lies.
The light in darkness shines so bright.
The fever dreams you give me haunt me every night.
But will you leave my thoughts?
I will call my shots.

The Poet and the Baby
How's a man to write a sonnet, can you tell,
How to weave the dim poetic spell,
When a toddling on the floor is the muse he must adore,
and this muse now, he loves not wisely but too well?
Now to write a sonnet everyone allows,
One must always be as quiet as a mouse;
But to write one seems to me quite superfluous to be,
When you've got a little sonnet in the house.
Just a dainty little poem, true and fine,
that is full of love and life in every line,
Earnest, delicate, and sweet,
Altogether so complete;
That I wonder what's the use of writing mine.
Samo Vovk (b. 1989)
Ta Na Solbici (And So We Dance in Resia)
There was a wedding in the village of Solbica.
The feet (nöge) were hitting the floor to loudly
that it drowned out the river Bila.
It was echoing off the mountain Ćanïn
The feet were hitting the floor so loudly
that it drowned out the church bell
English translation from Resian dialect
Eric Barnum (b. 1979)
Afternoon on a Hill
I will be the gladdest thing
Under the sun!
I will touch a hundred flowers
And not pick one.
I will look at cliffs and clouds
With quiet eyes,
I watch the wind bow down the grass,
And the grass rise.
And when lights begin to show
Up from the town,
I will mark which must be mine,
And then start down!

We Shall Be Known
We shall be known by the company we keep -
By the ones who circle 'round to tend these fires.
We shall be known by the ones who sow and reap the seeds of change -
Alive from deep within the Earth
It is time now.
It is time now that we thrive.
It is time we lead ourselves into the well.
It is time now.
And what a time to be alive.
In this great turning we shall learn to lead in love.
