ACC Dual Credit Programs

ACC Dual Credit Programs are an emerging phenomenon and our department has been playing a supportive and integral role academically. We offer numerous SOCI 1301 courses across the entire ACC district. Given our strong presence of courses we have created an institutional resource page for instructors. We hope to quickly add resources developing a professional learning community that includes faculty input on instructional strategies and curriculum design.

Dual Credit

Not to be confused with the previous plural "programs". This is one of four programs within the over all initiative.

Early College High School (ECHS)

Faculty Resources for Dual Credit & ECHS

Teaching a Dual credit course places the instructor in a rather new "dual" institutional position. We are both ACC faculty and instructor of record and are also engaged with an independent school district (ISD). AND, our dual credit students are 99.9% under the age of 18 (minor). Lions, tigers, and bears! The complexity is too much to unpack on a google site. Below is a general rule of thumb guidelines for administrative expectations.

  1. Our Department chair and Dean of Social Sciences division has taken a supporting position and encourage the sharing of student information with advisors (see below links) who are tasked with supporting certain populations of students. FERPA allows it and we encourage it.

  2. Dual credit students have signed a FERPA waiver to allow for the sharing of information with ACC designated Dual Credit advisors - NOT parents or guardians, or High School principals.

  3. How much or how little information you share with advisors is a bit of a moving target - suffice to say, instructors should share enough information that is needed to ensure the student's successful completion of the course. If an instructor is not able to assist a dual credit student sufficiently to ensure successful completion, then instructors should refer them to their dual credit advisor.

Dual Credit Enrollment and Partnerships Liaisons

Enrollment & Outreach staff serve as primary contacts for high school students in the enrollment and registration process. Austin Community College cannot release any information about a student's account to a parent/guardian including account or hold status, verification of enrollment or registration, etc.

Dual Credit Advising and Completion Liaisons

High School Programs Advising & Completion staff are responsible for advising all high school students enrolled in ACC courses, monitoring their success, and providing academic coaching. They serve as students’ main support once they are enrolled in ACC programs.
