Discussing Traditional Chinese Medicine with Dr. John Su

The contribution of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to health, wellness, people-centered health care and universal health coverage has drawn considerable interest worldwide to this unique scientific system. We will discuss with Dr. Su topics from the differences between Chinese and Western medicine to how TCM treats some common health issues.

Chi'Kung & Tai Chi Demonstration

Chi Kung and Tai Chi exercises have long been practised worldwide as a means of maintaining physical and mental health. Mark Leidig, ACC Martial Arts Instructor, will talk about the benefits of these exercises as well as the philosophy behind them. He will also give a demo of both forms of exercise and invite you to follow along with his basic set of Chi Kung.

Racial Healing Circle

May 12 , 12 p.m. (Noon) - 2 p.m.
Austin Community College District invites students, faculty, staff, and community partners to connect and talk about their own lived experience and learn from others. Racial healing circles create a caring environment where empathy is allowed to flourish and people from all walks of life can engage in courageous conversations about race and personal experience. Lunch will be provided.

Speakers and Presenters

Dr. John Su

Dr. John Su is the founder and president of AcuTouch Acupuncture and Herb Center in Austin, Texas. Dr. Su earned his Doctor of Medicine Degrees from Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, one of China’s top medical schools. He had medical training under Dr. Sun Shen Tian, one of the top 10 acupuncture doctors in China. He is the author of five books on Chinese medicine and has published more than a dozen research papers in various professional journals. Dr. Su is reputedly one of the leading and most skillful acupuncturists in practice, with more than 23 years of experience. He is particularly well known for his application of Acupuncture for the treatment of various diseases. He was also the Senior Professor and Clinic Supervisor at the nationally recognized Texas Health and Science University.

Mark Leidig

Mark Leidig has been an adjunct Professor of Kinesiology at ACC Northridge Campus since 1989. He specializes in courses pertaining to martial arts. Mark introduced T’ai Chi Ch’uan to the ACC Health and Kinesiology curriculum in the early 1990s. He also created the ACC classes Martial Arts Conditioning and Martial Arts Weaponry. In addition to this, Mark has maintained a regular Aikido class since 1989 and taught Target Archery and Self Defense for many years. He won the ACC Teaching Excellence Award in 2000 and has been nominated several more times.
