Dr. Shane Anderson
As an advocate of innovative methods of education, Shane Anderson, DMA, was one of the first music educators to create and teach Class Piano fully online. Through a Louisiana Board of Regents Grant and private donations totaling nearly $100,000, in 2016 he designed and installed a 24 station Roland piano lab for Nicholls State University. He has also served as pianist for many years with the Victoria Symphony and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestras.
His interest in new music has led him to perform and present classes on contemporary piano music in Jakarta, Bandung and Bali, Indonesia, on behalf of the Yamaha Corporation. Shane has been featured as a collaborative artist in hundreds of performances throughout Texas and Louisiana. He most recently served as head of the Department of Music at Nicholls State University and Associate professor of music at Texas A&M University in both Corpus Christi and Kingsville. His degrees are from the Eastman School of Music as a student of Nelita True and The University of Texas at Austin with Nancy Garrett. Shane teaches private and class piano for the Music Department at ACC.
Dr. Valeria Diaz
Valeria Diaz is an active concert pianist, collaborative pianist and a dedicated music mentor. Dr. Diaz currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at the Austin Community College. She provides instructions in American Music, Piano Class and Applied Piano courses. Dr. Diaz is an exceptional educator who brings her enthusiasm, love and many years of expertise to her classes. Her students excel at playing with excellent technique, expression and feeling. One of Dr. Diaz’s main goals is to inspire the love of music making, teaching students how to use creatively the semantics of the music language.
Dr. Diaz holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Texas Tech University. She also earned degrees at the University of Florida, College of Charleston and the National Conservatory in Lima, Peru. She has served as faculty at Charleston Academy of Music, Markham College, National Conservatory of Music, Orpheus Academy of Music, Texas Tech University and University of Florida. She currently belongs to the Music National Teacher Association, where she has presented her doctoral research lecture and recital based on “The unique mix of Peruvian folk elements with Western techniques of the 20th-Century.”
As a solo pianist, she has been a featured soloist on numerous occasions with Lima (Peru), Perugia (Italy) and Texas Tech Symphony Orchestras. She is an active collaborator of Chamber Music Ensembles and an advocate of SOFIA, Foundation for the Arts in Toluca, Mexico.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Diaz has worked with hundreds of students in private lessons, masterclasses, musicianship classes, chamber music sessions and concerts. With the SOFIA foundation for the Arts, she is organizing an international piano festival and competition that will take place every summer in Toluca, Mexico.
In her free time, Dr. Diaz enjoys hiking, dancing, cooking, traveling and reading psychology books on human learning.
Dr. Jose Flores
José Flores, an accomplished violin soloist and chamber musician, has showcased his talent in prestigious locations across the United States, including New York, Texas, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, as well as internationally in countries such as South Korea, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Mexico, and Venezuela. He holds degrees from the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York and earned his Doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of Arizona in 2006.
From 2006, Flores served as a professor of violin and viola at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and held the position of director of orchestral studies from 2012 to 2021. He is a permanent guest faculty member at the Switzerland International Music Academy.
Conducting is also part of his artistic profile. He has been a guest clinician in several Texas Educational Regions conducting young orchestras throughout the state. He was the conductor of the Corpus Christi Area Youth Orchestra Symphony from 2008 until the Spring of 2024. He will conduct the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra during the 2024-2025 season.
Jose Flores contributes significantly to various orchestras, serving as Concertmaster of the Kingsville Symphony, a member of the Corpus Christi Symphony, and principal second violinist with the Victoria Symphony. He is also a founding member of the Latin American Philharmonic in Houston, where he acted as concertmaster during the 2022-2023 season. Currently, Flores is the Director of Instrumental Studies for the String Area at the Austin Community College.
