We’ve been creating housing where families succeed since 1990.
Foundation Communities is a local, homegrown nonprofit. We provide affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families with kids, as well as veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. We offer an innovative, proven model that empowers our residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial wellness, and healthier lifestyles. We own and operate 25 communities all over Austin and in North Texas.

Home
Welcome Home Baskets: Provide our new residents who are moving out of homelessness with basic household items like linens, plates, and towels.
Care Cards: Put pen to paper and share some simple, kind words with residents at Foundation Communities. Include an inspiring quote, a short poem, draw a picture, or share an affirmation.
Supper Clubs: Help fight hunger by providing meals to our single adults. We ask volunteer groups to provide individually pre-packaged meals for around 40-90 individuals. Volunteers must purchase all supplies needed.
Care Calls: Volunteers provide social support to single adult residents. After training, volunteers will be connected with a single adult living at one of Foundation Communities’ properties with a goal to provide companionship in the form of regular phone check-ins. Care Calls volunteers help to mitigate the negative effects of social isolation through acceptance, care, and compassion.
Shopping Buddies: Due to mobility impairments and other barriers, a number of our adult residents lack reliable access to the grocery store. Volunteers can help address this vital need by providing transportation or picking up curbside orders on their behalf. New volunteers are required to complete an orientation and clear a background check.
Education
After School and Summer Learning Programs: Help our kids dream big and succeed in school! Provide classroom support, homework help, and lead enrichment activities. All new volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation and clear a background check.
English as a Second Language Classes: Serve as a teaching assistant for adults who want to communicate more effectively with their children’s teachers, expand their employment opportunities, and navigate daily life with more ease. All new volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation.
Financial Wellness
Tax Help: Provide free tax preparation and secure full refunds for hard working low-income families so they can put more food on the table, pay outstanding bills, and save for the future. Volunteer trainings are held in December and January. You don’t have to have a background in accounting. We need tax preparers, as well as client liaisons and translators. We’ll cover everything you need to know!
Financial Coaching: Empower our residents and neighbors with the financial tools they need to manage a tight budget, reduce their debt, and improve their credit scores. All new volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation.
Health
Health Coverage (Insure Central Texas): Help families and individuals enroll in affordable health insurance and find peace of mind for the future. All new volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation and training.
Healthy Food Pantries: Help set up pantries and serve clients accessing fresh, healthy food. All new volunteers are required to complete a volunteer orientation, clear a background check, and take the USDA civil rights training.
