The situation is urgent. Lawmakers in at least 44 states have introduced legislation or pursued other measures that attempt to require educators to lie to students about the role of racism, sexism, heterosexism, transphobia, and other forms of oppression throughout U.S. history. These laws and restrictions have been imposed in at least 18 states. The Right has declared war on teaching the truth about structural racism and sexism and on LGBTQ+ youth. On June 10th in Lansing and nation wide: WE PLEDGE TO #TEACH TRUTH!
We will gather at 10am June 10 2023 at the corner of Detroit Street and E. Michigan Ave where Earl Little was hit by a streetcar, and walk together along E. Michigan Ave to Sparrow Hospital where he died. We can stop to chalk the sidewalks on the way with historical info. We will deliver some great (sometimes banned) children's books to the hospital to give to children in their care. The event should be over by 11:30am. Parking is plentiful at the starting site and attendees can take the #1 bus to return - it runs approx. every 20 mins. Bring sun protection, drinking water,
