When you are experiencing uncomfortable feelings like being sad, angry or mad, you have learned to calm down using the calm down strategies (name your feeling, take a belly breath, counting). Now, we are learning to solve our own problems. When you have a problem, practice the STEP problem-solving steps. First, Say the problem. Next, Think of solutions. Then, Explore consequences. Finally, Pick the best solution. To help you remember the problem-solving steps, you can listen to the song here below:
Here is the picture of the flower and the candle from our Second Step lesson today on Zoom. When dealing with big feelings like disappointment and frustration, take a deep breath through your nose (like smelling a flower), then slowly breath out through your mouth (like blowing out a candle). You may want to print the pdf here to make your own front and back card or just make your own!
Day 1 (at home)
Check out our amaryllis that used to be in the classroom. Do you see the bud? I wonder when it will begin to open? Let's watch the changes as I post new photos in the coming days!
Day 5
What changes do you notice? Tell a family friend what is happening.
PS: Can you spy any other changes besides the amaryllis?
Day 8
The amaryllis is beginning to bloom. Can you see the changes? I wonder what the blossom will look like when it has finished opening. Something else has changed. Can you spot it?
Day 11
The amaryllis has fully bloomed. Isn't it beautiful!
