Welcome To 8th Grade Science!

Dear Students and Families,

I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of you this year.  It’s going to be a year of learning, exploring, and fun.  If you are reading this message you have found the class website!  Please bookmark this website on your home computer- it will be an important tool all year.  I suggest spending a few minutes browsing the website to get a feel for the organization and layout.  Then, find the class syllabus, read through it, and take the syllabus check linked at the end.

Next, you might remember using notebooks in 7th grade?  We will be using 100-page composition notebooks in 8th grade as well.  Each student will need 1 notebook that can be dedicated only to science class.  We will start using them on Tuesday August 16th.  A notebook will be provided to any student that does not bring their own for any reason.

Eighth grade science covers topics such as Forces, Electricity & Magnetism, Waves, Earth & Space, Geologic History, Genetics, and Evolution.  Our curriculum is centered around hands-on labs and investigating models that allows students to construct scientific understanding by collecting data to make claims. We have a lot to look forward to this year!

The first unit is called Nature of Science and will explore science practices and skills we will be using all year.  To keep up with what is happening in science class, check this website and please reach out if you have any questions.  The best way to contact me is via email at dgottheiner@ausdk12.org.

Respectfully,

Daniel Gottheiner
