In an effort to improve school facilities, The Board of Education of the Alhambra Unified School District approved to place Measure HS “Alhambra Unified Elementary School Repair/Student Safety Measure”, general obligation bond, on the November 2016 ballot. Measure HS will cover all high schools of AUSD and is in the amount of $149,000,000. Funds generated from this bond Measure will repair deteriorating classrooms, replace leaky roofs, remove asbestos, remove asbestos and lead paint, ensure safe drinking water and disability accessibility, upgrade school fire and earthquake safety systems, upgrade restrooms and classrooms, upgrade classroom technology, wiring and science labs.
By law, Measure HS requires the district to create an independent Citizens Oversight Committee to ensure all projects are completed as voters approved. Independent audits must be conducted each year and made public for additional taxpayer assurances. Measure HS will assess approximately $22 annually for each $100,000 of assessed property value. With the passing of Measure HS, AUSD will dramatically raise the quality of student experience and will ensure the safety of students, faculty and staff.
