Alhambra Unified Community Schools

Mission Statement

In Alhambra Unified School District, our goal is to coordinate services and supports that fit each neighborhood's needs and are created and facilitated by the people who know our children best - families, educators, neighborhood, schools, district steering committees, and the students themselves.

Four Pillars of Community Schools

Supporting the whole child and their families so that all students can thrive and continue on a path of success.

Integrated student supports address out-of-school barriers through the coordination of trauma-informed health, mental health, and social services.

Expanded learning time and ample enrichment opportunities focus on students’ academic success and social and emotional development outside of the regular school day.

Collaborative practices for educators and administrators that establish a culture of professional learning, collective trust, and shared responsibility for outcomes in a manner that includes students, families, and community members.

Family and community engagement, which involves actively tapping into the expertise and knowledge of family and community members to serve as true partners in supporting and educating students.

What does a Community School do?

A community school is any school serving pre-Kindergarten through high-school students using a "whole child," approach with an integrated focus on academics, health, social services, youth development, and community engagement.

Offers a wide range of services onsite during and outside of school hours to enhance accessibility, minimize absences, and contribute to healthier families, safer neighborhoods, and stronger ties between the school, families, and the community they serve.
