Hello! My name is Miss (Natalie) Faris and I am the counselor here at Longley Way! I am so grateful to be apart of such an outstanding team of educators and I love serving the students and families of LW!
I graduated with my BA in Dance and Women & Gender Studies from Cal State University Fullerton. I later returned to school and received my PPS credential and M.A in Educational and Clinical Counseling from Azusa Pacific University. I enjoy theatre, traveling, and teaching dance!
I was driven to become a counselor by my love for children. I am passionate about educating our students to understand and express their feelings, while growing into kind learners and leaders! I am always eager to support students, families, and staff here at Longley Way!

What do elementary school counselors do?
- Promote and support the social/emotional well being of all students
- Facilitate classroom lessons TK-5 related to social/emotional skills and based on the needs of students
- Provide immediate short, or long term counseling services for students individually or in a group
- Engage all students in lunch bunch and activity groups
- Work collaboratively with all teachers and staff
- Provide information and referrals for community resources to families

- Topics may include emotional regulation, behavior modification, grief, coping skills, social skills, changing families, problem solving, decision making, etc.

- Topics may include social skills, emotion regulation, fairness, conflict resolution, mediation, friendship, self-esteem, anger management, etc.

Classroom Lessons
- Kimochis (TK-1): Research based curriculum that utilizes communication tools to help students manage feelings in positive ways to promote well-being and success in school. A combination of plush characters, feelings pillows and curriculum that help children deal with difficult feelings and challenging behaviors.
- Second Step (K-2): Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) evidence based curriculum gives students the tools to excel inside and outside of the classroom. The focus is on emotion management, situational awareness, problem solving and academic achievement.
- Leader in Me (3rd lessons, campus wide implementation)- The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is a key component of The Leader in Me. The 7 Habits is a combination of universal, timeless principles of responsibility, communication, time management, vision, integrity, teamwork and renewal, which are secular in nature and common to all people and cultures.
- Needs Based - I conduct classroom lessons on a variety of topics depending on the need of the class and grade level. Topics may include; Test Taking Tips and Strategies, Zones of Regulation (emotion regulation curriculum), Kindness, Diversity, Communication Styles, Study Skills, etc.
- 5th Grade Transition - I work closely with the AUSD Transition Counselors in preparing 5th grade students for Middle School through the implementation of lessons on communication, being proactive, resiliency, productive study habits, expectations of Middle School, etc.
