CTE Electives
CTE classes are identified as electives that our students can take to fill their elective classes or take to receive more class credits.
For Students to be considered a CTE Completer, they must pass two classes in any of the pathways , including the Capstone class with a C- or better.
All CTE completers will be offered the chance to purchase a CTE cord before graduation.
*Semester-Long Classes
CTE Pathway Classes
Beginning Dance (Intro) - this class can fulfill PE, Health, & VPA requirements.
Intermediate Dance (Concentrator) - Student audition and/or permission of instructor. May receive fine arts or PE credit towards graduation.
Orchesis (Capstone) - Student audition and/or permission of instructor. 0 and 1st period. 10th-12 only.
Stagecraft (Introductory/Concentrator) - Additional time is required after school for theatrical productions.
Advanced Stagecraft (Capstone) - Additional time is required after school for theatrical productions. Completion of Stagecraft with a "C" or better or teacher approval.
Beginning Television Production (Introductory)
Intermediate Video Production (Concentrator) - Completion of Beginning Television Production with a grade of “C” or higher OR permission from the teacher.
Advanced Video Production (Capstone) - Teacher recommendation, interview/ audition, Beginning Television Production, Intermediate Video Production OR completion of Contemporary Journalism with a grade of “C” or higher. Students are expected to attend classes Tuesday and Thursday after school for the Apache News weekly newscast.
Graphic Design (Concentrator)
Advanced Graphic Design (Capstone) - Completion of Graphic Design with a college qualifying grade of “C” or better or teacher approval.
*Food Science (Intro) - This course may be repeated for credit.
Culinary Arts (Concentrator)
Culinary Science (Capstone) - This course may be repeated for credit.
Photography (Introductory/Concentrator)
Advanced Photography (Capstone) - Completion of Photography with a grade of “C” or higher in both semesters, or instructor approval
Introduction to Engineering Design (Introductory)
Principles of Engineering (Concentrator) - Completion of Algebra 1 with a grade of “C” or higher.
Engineering Design and Development (Capstone) - Completion of Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, AP Computer Science A, or Computer Science Principles AP with a grade of “C” or higher. Engineering Design and Development students will be selected through an application process. Class Hours:This class requires after school hours to prepare for competitions. There will be at minimum, two competitions, one per semester. This class may be repeated for credit.
*Computer Science (Intro)
Computer Science Principles AP (Concentrator)
Computer Science AP (Capstone) - Recommendation: Completion of AP Computer Science Principles, Java Programming, or C++ Programming.
For most students AP Computer Science Principles is a good first computer science course and a good first AP course. Students proficient in grade level math and English can do well in this course. It is an exploration of the principles of computing.
AP Computer Science A is for students who want to gain a deep experience in Java programming.
*Sports Medicine (Introductory) - An after-school component requires all students to participate in lab experiences involving athletic training and observation of ten hours.
Medical Careers (Concentrator)
Medical/Therapeutic Principles of Sport Fitness (Capstone) - An after-school component requires all students to participate in twenty hours each semester of lab experiences involving athletic training and observation.
CTE Individual Classes
Semester-Long Class
This course introduces high school students to the expanding field of cybersecurity through problem-based learning, where they role-play as cybersecurity experts.
Semester-Long Class
This class introduces students to the fundamentals of computer science and programming, focusing on developing the logical thinking skills and problem-solving skills essential for creating modern video games.
Year-Long Class
Animation is a project-based course that focuses on creativity and storytelling. Students will use Adobe Creative Cloud products to produce their animation projects.
Semester-Long Class
This course introduces students to the buying and selling of goods, services, and to ideas in the electronic commerce environment. Utilizing marketing foundations and functions, students will learn that marketing is a process that includes selling, advertising, market research, product decision-making and distribution.
Work and Career Readiness (Semester-Long Class)
This course is designed for students who are currently employed or seeking employment. The goal is to provide students with the necessary skills for entry-level employment. Topics covered include job search, interviewing, job skills, career exploration, personal finance, and starting your own business.
Work Experience (Semester-Long Class)
Students must have a job and may enroll more than one semester. This course gives special attention to students who are currently working in Food, Retail or Office Occupations. Knowledge of customer relations, career advancement, safe work habits, tax preparation and terminology used in the industry will be covered.
