(Chem 1301)
AUS follows the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This course provides the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding about the relationships between the structure and properties of matter and the interaction of matter and energy.
Students will conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem solving. Units of study include atomic structure, electrons in atoms, periodicity, nuclear chemistry, chemical bonding, chemical formulas and quantities, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, the behavior of gases, solutions, acids and bases, thermochemistry, reaction rates, and equilibrium, and organic chemistry. Laboratory activities reinforce the concepts and principles presented in the course. Students will investigate how chemistry is an integral part of our daily lives.
