With a BA in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking from Arts University Plymouth, I am a contemporary oil painter living and working in Plymouth. I would consider myself a creative at heart with at least one project on the go at all times. On any given day, there is barely an hour that passes where I am not possessed by creative intention.
Like many young queer individuals growing up in the rural southwest, where views on many topics are very regressive, I often felt I was othered and living on the edges of society. It was only when I moved to a city did I realise there is a place for me in this world, and I am in fact not an alien(!).
As a non-binary artist, I am motivated to build upon the legacy of the LGBTQ activists that came before me. With these vital foundations set in place, I am aiming to shift the movement from people striving to be seen and accepted as ‘queer’ to us being accepted as queer whilst also being viewed as regular members of society, regardless of sexuality or gender identity.
As someone who is continuously studying oil painting techniques, I am motivated to use the best technical skills to express what is true to me. Therefore, I am not necessarily driven to paint photo-realsim as I am more interested in working in the space between abstraction and figuration.
