About Your School Nurse / PLTW Biomedical Science Teacher

From Your School Nurse / Biomedical Science Teacher:

LLHS HEALTH OFFICE HOURS: M-F except Period 1,  2, 4 and Wednesday Academy.

Greetings :)  I am Kathi Mooney, your School Nurse. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. I have a Bachelor of Science and a Masters degree in Nursing.  I completed my undergraduate studies at USF and graduate studies at UCLA. My clinical experience includes recovery of post surgical heart patients with specialization in pediatric heart surgery and transplantation. I have worked at several teaching institutions including Stanford Medical Center and UCLA Med. I am Public Health Nurse certificated, am an American Red Cross Instructor, American College of Surgeons Stop-the-Bleed Instructor and an Advisor for LLHS HOSA (Health Occupations for Students in America.) I also hold a teaching credentials for California Technical Education/ Health Sciences and CDE Single Subject credentials in Health Science and  Biological Science. I began working at Las Lomas during the 2007-2008 school year.

My philosophy for healthcare of students at the high school level is guided by preventative measures. I focus on teaching students about sleep, nutrition, exercise and keeping life in balance.  I also work on teams with Counselors, Intervention Specialists, our School Psychologist, Administrators, the Wellness Center and Teachers to create plans for students who have special physical and mental health disorders that make daily access to academics difficult.

My philosophy for my students in the classroom and in the Health Office encompasses equal access for all.

I am the PLTW PBS, HBS (Project Lead The Way; Principles of Biomedical Science / Human Body Systems / Science) Teacher this year for periods one and four.  Also, I am the LLHS HOSA (Health Occupations for Students in America) Advisor and hold Health Office hours daily when I am not teaching. In order to promote classroom attendance while on campus I am open during lunch and brunch. I am available to parents during scheduled appointments.

If your student needs medication at school or has a medical/health issue we need to know about, medical documentation is needed for each new calendar year. You can access these Medical Forms and Care Plans and much more on this website if you click on the hamburger menu bars on the upper left.
