Principal's Welcome

Junior high is an exciting time in your education where you continue building on the foundation that sets the stage for success in high school, college, and life. We offer an educational experience based on the skills that will prepare you for the jobs of the future. You will learn how to be an effective communicator, a positive collaborator, a critical thinker, be creative, and have a strong sense of character/compassion.


Dale Junior High has an excellent elective program with pathways in the visual and performing arts, career technical education, STEAM, Cybersecurity, and World Languages. You will also have the opportunity to participate in our after-school sports program (football, tennis, volleyball, soccer, basketball, cross country, softball, and track and field) and in a variety of clubs that meet during lunch and after school. Finally, you will have the opportunity to participate in performances, go on educational field trips, and attend school dances.

Dale Students Prepare for the Future

One of the fastest growing job sectors in the United States is Cybersecurity. According to reports, there will be a projected 3.5 million vacancies in 2022. There will be endless opportunities within the field of Cybersecurity and the industry needs skilled talent.

To meet this growing demand, AUHSD developed the Cybersecurity Pathway as a way to provide more opportunities for our students to prepare for the future. The Cybersecurity Pathway is an Exclusive Pathway between Dale JHS and Magnolia HS designed for students who wish to pursue a career in Cybersecurity/Computer Science.

This CSBA Golden Bell Award Winning Program builds proficiency in both English and Vietnamese. At Dale Junior High School, students in this pathway are enrolled in Vietnamese 1 and Exploring Cybersecurity in the 7th grade and Vietnamese 2 and Advanced Exploring Cybersecurity or Mesa in the 8th grade. At Magnolia High School, students will take two classes in Vietnamese: Vietnamese Language and Coding/Computer Science.

Students in this Exclusive Pathway between Dale JHS and Magnolia HS will have a better opportunity to earn the Seal of Biliteracy that will be affixed to their diploma. Qualified students will wear a Dual Language Medal and Sash over their gowns at the graduation ceremony. Students will have an opportunity to obtain an internship at one of the participating Vietnamese Businesses through AIME. Students will have a better opportunity to receive college scholarships of $10,000 annually for up to four years from Amazon Future Engineer and paid summer internships at Amazon. In the United States, bilingual employees earn about 5 - 20% more than monolingual employees. On average, jobs requiring coding skills pay $22,000 more per year than jobs that don’t. Our academy will equip students with 21st century language skills to be competitive for scholarships, college admission and employment. Bilingualism is an asset that will help students become competitive on a global level. This academy promotes respect for self, family, school and community. This academy also helps to develop a close relationship between family and school.

Exploring cybersecurity

In Exploring Cybersecurity, students will explore cybersecurity topics, digital citizenship and cyber hygiene. Students will complete a culminating course project where they will create a public service announcement. Students will learn the basics of protecting their own data and become aware of how cybersecurity is important for the information age in which we live.

exploring home economics

In Exploring Home Economics, students will learn different life skills. Students will learn how to read a recipe, use basic cooking skills, experience various kitchen equipment, analyze a food label for its ingredients as well as its nutritional value, how to plan nutritional snacks and/or meals and how to maintain a safe environment. While learning these skills, students will learn how to work as a team player in a collaborative and cooperative environment.

Visual and Performing Arts

Applied Art

Applied Art is designed for students interested in both two and three-dimensional media. Students will experience further growth in aesthetic appreciation and cultural awareness of art.

Music Appreciation

No prior knowledge of music or performing is required. By the end of this class you will be able to read and write music, listen and share music of all genres, learn about the history of music and try out a variety of musical abilities.

YEARLONG

(Beginning Band)

Learn an instrument and become a STAR! This class will give you the chance to learn how to play a brass, woodwind or percussion instrument from the very beginning. You will learn how to play the instrument of your choice, learn to read music and become a performer. Joining Band will teach you teamwork, enhance your academic performance and provide you with lifelong friends. Band kids are the best kids, period. No experience is necessary to discover your TALENT!

(Intermediate Band)

Do you already play a musical instrument? Here is your chance to take your talent to the next level. Imagine performing at school events, band festivals, football games and possibly a local theme park. With your previous experience, Intermediate Band can make you a STAR!

Choir (Treble Ensemble)

This course is designed for specialized vocal groupings (treble) and is open to students with some or no musical ability. Instruction is given in fundamental vocal techniques and basic musicianship using singing materials written for specific voices. This may is a performing group, and attendance at all rehearsals and performances will be required unless prior approval has been granted

Choir (Bass Ensemble)

This course is designed for specialized vocal groupings (bass) and is open to students with some or no musical ability. Instruction is given in fundamental vocal techniques and basic musicianship using singing materials written for specific voices. This is a performing group, and attendance at all rehearsals and performances will be required unless prior approval has been granted

Art 1

Beginning Art is a basic, exploratory course offered for students who have little or no previous art experience. Students are introduced to elements of art and principles of design. Basic art materials such as pencil, crayon, ink, paint and various papers are used. Students may be required to pay for materials used to fabricate personal projects.

Drama

This class is an introductory drama course. Students will learn pantomime, improvisation, and monologues, as well as acting in commercials and performing in scenes. Students will learn the basics of theater vocabulary, stage movement, vocal development, characterization, memorization techniques, and play production.

Spanish Conversation & Culture

This course offers students an exciting introduction to the Spanish language and culture. This course introduces the students to basic conversational vocabulary of Spanish speaking countries. Via videos, music CDs, and research projects using Common Core strategies, students explore and experience the culture and traditions of Spanish -speaking countries. Geography, art, music, food, holidays are just a few of the topics we cover in this semester-long course.

Multicultural Awareness

Do you want to learn about your history and culture and the culture of others? Do you want to learn how to help our communities and make our community a better place? The Multicultural Awareness course aims to educate students to be politically, socially, economically aware about their personal connections to local and global histories and cultures. You will learn about art, music, language, and storytelling. By studying the histories of race, ethnicity, nationality, and culture, students will develop respect and empathy for individuals and solidarity with groups of people locally, nationally and globally so as to foster active social engagement and community building. You will learn about yourself and learn about others in this semester elective.

This is a fun exploratory quarter or semester elective designed to give an introduction to the AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) program. This class teaches skills to be successful in school and life such as organization, self-advocacy and motivation. Additionally, this class will explore the basics of college and career interests. Even though we are only together 1⁄2 the year, we build community through special projects and activities.

YEARLONG

Spanish for Spanish Speakers 1

This course is designed for heritage Spanish speakers. Major emphasis is placed on the development of Spanish literacy. Students will experience extensive study in reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in this yearlong elective.

Vietnamese 1

No prior knowledge is necessary - Earn High School Credits. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of communication in Vietnamese. The geography and culture of Vietnamese will be introduced as well. Credits earned from this class will count toward high school. This course will satisfy the World Language A-G Requirement in high school. This class will also count toward earning the Seal of Biliteracy which will be affixed to the diploma when the student graduates high school.

Student Government/ASB

(Application REQUIRED) This is a year long student leadership class. Students are chosen through an application/interview process. The purpose of this class is to teach leadership through personal/interpersonal skills, communication skills, planning and organizing skills, fiscal responsibility, critical thinking/problem solving skills and service to our community. Members of Dale’s ASB class will be expected to be student leaders and role models on and off campus. ASB is an amazing opportunity to make great friends, build character and represent your school with pride and leadership:)

Yearbook

This is a yearlong elective in which students will build community with each other and build their leadership skills. Students will learn about basic photography, take pictures at school events and create layouts in order to create, produce and sell the school memory book.
