The video above shows what the student side looks like when students are completing topic goals. The video details how students are provided a learning page with which they can learn the new topic and then five questions following that relate to the learning page. The program analyzes student responses and from the responses determines whether students have learned the topic or if remediation and/or a different learning path is necessary. The video also demonstrates how students have some flexibility to choose different topics to learn if they want.

The video on the left describes how to set up a topic goal assignment for your students. The video describes how to adjust the settings to make topic goals reoccurring, to set the due date for the assignment, and to award points partially based on how many topics the students have completed. As you watch this short video, start to think about:
How would you assign topic goals in your class? Would you assign weekly, biweekly, monthly, or another way?
How many topics seem reasonable? Is it based on how long the assignment is open?
Would you allow time in class or have students complete strictly outside of class?
You will have a chance to collaborate with your colleagues on the ideas you developed from watching the video in the next activity.
With your assigned group, complete the Jamboard describing how your group will utilize ALEKs Topic Goals in your classrooms. Think about, what will be the best way to utilize ALEKs in your classroom, what duration do you think is best to assign topic goals, how often should you assign topic goals, what are some issues that might occur with the practices you have suggested? Be sure to include your rational for why your group posted what they did. Be prepared to share your rationale with others.
