Our school enrollment is currently at 726 students. Our average daily attendance for the year is 93.32% as of January 9th. Prior to Winter Break, of 727 students, 102 had maintained perfect attendance, and 16 students had perfect period attendance since the start of the year. We're eager to see what this Semester holds for our students and their accountabilities.
Leading up to the holidays and finals, Mr. Byxbe wanted to do something special to show appreciation for everyone who helps keep our school running smoothly—teachers, substitutes, custodians, maintenance workers, secretaries, and more.
We set up a "Thriving Not Surviving" Bagel Bar to give staff a chance to grab breakfast and connect before starting their day. It was a hit! Bagels, spreads, and good company made for a great way to kick off the morning.
The best part was seeing everyone come together—laughing, chatting, and enjoying a moment of calm before the busy day ahead. It was a small gesture that went a long way in making our staff feel appreciated and supported during the holiday hustle.
West Valley staff made the most of the In-Service day to prepare for our students’ return after winter break. They focused on organizing classrooms and refining their curriculum.
At 10 a.m., staff gathered for a refreshing walk, with some enjoying the school trail while others walked the track. This was more than just a break—a chance to connect, reflect, and share experiences in a relaxed setting, fostering collaboration and camaraderie as they set the tone for a positive and united start to the year.
Our school website is undergoing a significant upgrade. Ms. Bullington has diligently collaborated with site secretaries to enhance the website's functionality and visual appeal. We have selected Catapult CMS as the new platform to meet our needs.
Our site secretary is actively working on uploading photos and essential information to facilitate the migration and launch of the new website. We are excited about these improvements and look forward to unveiling a more user-friendly and visually engaging site soon!
Upon returning from a weekend away, we discovered a broken pipe in the Ceramics classroom that caused extensive damage to the wall and serious flooding. Thanks to the swift response and hard work of the West Valley Maintenance crew, the Custodial team, Mr. Shriner, and Clean Rite BuildRite, the damage was addressed, and the classroom has been fully restored. We are grateful for their dedication to ensuring the space is again functional for our students and staff.
Over the past few weeks, West Valley has had lighting installers on campus to upgrade the entire school with energy-efficient LED lighting. The new lights have brightened classrooms and other spaces, creating a more vibrant and welcoming environment for everyone.
Rumor is that Anderson High School may be next in line for this lighting upgrade! Thank you to Brandt Shriner and the West Valley Maintenance team for managing this process and helping make our campus even better.
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Mr. Fairley, West Valley Maintenance, AUHSD IT Department, WatchFire, and Comer Communications, West Valley's marquee sign is once again up and running. Each group played a pivotal role in assisting Mrs. Domke in getting the sign back in action. Moving forward, Mrs. Domke plans to update the marquee weekly with upcoming events, keeping our community informed and engaged. We appreciate everyone's support in making this possible!
Our weight training classes have begun using a new app called RackCoach, which has been implemented into our strength and conditioning curriculum. RackCoach is a helpful tool that supports athletic training by giving students customized workout plans, tracking their progress, and providing feedback on their exercises.
The app includes easy-to-follow training plans, videos showing proper techniques and a way for students to see their improvements over time. Using RackCoach in our strength and conditioning classes helps students stay engaged, improve their skills, and focus on their fitness goals.
The Construction Tech class is actively working to enhance our campus through various improvement projects. Their latest initiative focuses on the Attendance Office. Students collaborated with Attendance Secretaries Mr. Byxbe and Mrs. Domke to develop a vision for improving the space's visibility and functionality.
Currently, the ability to see incoming visitors is limited. The class is constructing a platform to elevate the attendance desks to address this. This adjustment aims to improve the secretaries' ability to monitor visitors entering and exiting campus, enhancing security and efficiency. This project reflects the dedication of our students to creating a safer and more welcoming environment for everyone.
This week in Mr. Poldervaart's classroom, AG Mech students refresh their safety skills to ensure a safe and productive environment. Next week, they will begin a new project: constructing a standing shelf, as pictured below. We're excited to see their hard work and craftsmanship come to life!
This holiday season, West Valley's National Honor Society chose to make care packages for the children in need of the Happy Valley School community. Thank you to Sandi Garcia for accepting NHS's donation. We donated over 25 boxes filled with arts, crafts, games, and necessities. Happy Holidays from the NHS to you!
West Valley FFA students showing a steer or goat must attend a mandatory meeting next Friday, January 17th, during lunch in Room 1204. This meeting will provide important information and updates for all steer and goat exhibitors.
The West Valley Sober Grad Committee and senior students have been meeting monthly and actively reaching out to local community members to gather support for their Sober Grad Night, which will take place on campus following graduation on Thursday, June 5th.
Sober Grad is a countywide program supported by the California Highway Patrol and the Shasta County Chemical People. These organizations help fund all-night graduation celebrations for local high schools by selling "certificates."
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the many local businesses and community members who have generously contributed to making West Valley's Class of 2025 Sober Grad Night a safe, fun, and memorable event. Thank you for your support!
