Attendance
AUHS enrollment is currently 558 students. We continue to provide monthly incentives for monthly perfect attendance and no tardies, run a weekly grade level competition (winning class gets out 5 min early for lunch), communicate with students and their families when they have attendance concerns, work to remove barriers for students with attendance concerns and involve the School Attendance Review Board in extreme cases. Attendance is important to us because better attendance rates translate into greater student acheivement and the increase funding to spend on our students.
Finals Week
Next week is our 1st Semester Finals week. Students will have two finals per day on Tuesday 12/17, Wednesday 12/18, and Thursday 12/19, before going on Christmas break. AUHS teachers provide a high level of rigor and the expectation on finals are no different. Finals are the last chance this semester for students to demonstrate their level of proficiency. Study hard and Good luck CUBS!

Cub Connection had a wonderful “Friendsgiving” on November 21st before break, serving 35 students. All students were asked and shared what they were thankful for. Upcoming, room 212 will be used for a Kick-off Christmas movie day on Monday December 16th at 3pm. Mrs. Murphy has been working non stop on this room to get it cleaned up and ready for use. In the new year, Cub Connection will be offering enrichment activities.
UC Davis Upward Bound held their 5th Annual Christmas STEAM Workshop. This year they also invited our sister UCD UB students from West Valley. In the STEAM Workshop students learn about the different types of careers that go into the building industry (with college degrees, voc ed training and certificates). They were reguired to create a blue print of the proposed gingerbread house, meeting all the requirements (minimum building size and specific supplies needed) and to submit a budget for their building. Once approved they gathered their required supplies and build their houses. After their build, students complete an evaluation of their project (i.e.- if their house survived mother nature, hurricane and earthquake, if they stayed on budget and their overall rating of the experience.
The student voted on "wing stop" lunch was provided.
In the pictures I sent, the large group is our current students (including WV), the second is former AHS students who continue attended.
