Students must demonstrate communication, work ethic, collaboration and critical thinking as those are components of their grades.
Students are showcasing their learning of their skills for finals. There are presentations occurring in English, social science as well as science classes.
Students can get "fired" from their group, with teacher consultation, for not meeting the terms of the group agreements. Next, the student finishes and presents the group project on their own.
"Over the last several weeks we have been studying the Industrial Revolution and the Age of Imperialism. Students have been looking at primary sources, text readings, and participating in discussions and lectures to determine the main themes from these time periods. Students then researched themes from these eras that interested them and from these themes they analyzed which of the themes they could turn into a poem. From here Ms. Pemberton took over teaching them about poetry and sound devices by having them analyze various poems. She then had them write their original poem, from the theme they identified, using literary and sound devices.
We then set up our cafe with a stage, lights, and microphone and had the students rehearsal and memorize their original poem and then perform the poem for parents and their peers at our "open mic" day. We served coffee hot chocolate as well as pastries to make it feel like a coffee shop "open mic" day and to have a little fun with it.
The students not only learned about poetry and two very important ages in World History, they also leaned into their creative sides, demonstrated critical thinking, and were stretched to hone their communication skills by presenting in a "high stakes" environment with all eyes on them. We were very proud of the outcome and to have the students build on skills they will need in their next steps after high school."
WASC Action Plan Goal: Create a systemic plan to integrate new, mid-year and homeschooling students into our school culture and retain them over the course of 4 or 5 years.
All students, new and returning have their PLT (Personalized Learning Teacher) to help navigate the school and their path within, connecting to counselor, Echo help, or anything they need to be more future ready.
First student activity for 2025 is our field trip on Friday, January 17th, to the Siskiyou Ice Rink at Mt. Shasta w/ Mrs. Hernandez & Mr. Lewis.

All students, new and returning have their PLT (Personalized Learning Teacher) to help navigate the school and their path within, connecting to counselor, Echo help, or anything they need to be more future ready.
Priority PLT Meetings were initially scheduled 2nd trimester with seniors of at risk of failing core classes, then with all other students at risk of failing multiple classes and the remainder, as time permitted.
Many alumni came back for blanket making.
On December 14th, Mrs. Hysell, Ms. Savage & students volunteered at a Christmas Tree Giveaway put on by Community Alliance Network & Rotary Club of Redding. Their goal was to make sure children woke up on Christmas morning to a fully decorated tree and toys, generously donated by the Salvation Army's Stuff the Bus Drive.
It was a great experience and we look forward to volunteering again next year!
We would like to recognize August Bamford as our January Student of the Month. August is recognized as a top-performing student, exhibiting exceptional academic prowess and effective communication abilities. They work well with peers and are consistently engaged in classroom dialogues.
In their role as a teaching assistant, August offers critical support to underclassmen, guiding them in finding necessary information, maintaining their focus, and enhancing their presentation skills.
Overall, August acts as a role model for fellow students, demonstrating a strong commitment to their studies and a kind, approachable demeanor that fosters a positive learning environment.
We are pleased to announce Carrie Hernandez as our staff member of the month. Her exceptional ability to provide engaging activities for students each month significantly enhances our campus culture. Carrie plays a pivotal role in organizing our annual No-Sew Blanket fundraising and blanket-making events, which benefit local foster youth. Remarkably, she has sustained this initiative for two decades.
Carrie consistently demonstrates her willingness to assist both staff and students, making herself available whenever a student requires additional support in mathematics. Furthermore, she actively contributes to our teaching staff by serving as a representative during union contract negotiations. In addition to her numerous responsibilities, she generously provides homemade meals for her colleagues to enjoy.
Carrie is highly regarded within Anderson New Technology High School and the broader Anderson Union High School District.
Our Radio ad started playing on December 26th and will continue into January. We hope to gain more students this month.
