Native American Studies at Augustana College

Mission Statement

Built on the ancestral homelands of the Sauk, Meskwaki, Potawatomi, Peoria, and Miami nations, Augustana College holds a unique position in its ability to be a focal point for dialogue surrounding indigenous rights and representation in the Quad Cities. However, we are aware that these discussions are not prioritized on Augustana’s campus. We want to make space for these conversations to happen, and we urge Augustana College board members and administration to begin to take the steps necessary to better represent and serve indigenous peoples on campus and in the community. We suggest the development of a Native American Studies program on campus based on the work that students and faculty have begun doing. We encourage students, faculty, administrators, and community members of all backgrounds to participate in this action plan.
